COMPETITION PAIRED WITH TECHNOLOGY

HOW IT WORKS

PickleBall Ladder League

Ladder Management System (LMS)

It’s all about having fun and being competitive!

Overview:

If people in your club like to play sports, be active, meet new people and enjoy competition, a Ladder League would be a great development opportunity. The ladder will work for all PickleBall skill levels from beginner to highly skilled. The LMS system

was designed to get players of similar skills to be in competition with each other.

After interviewing many players and coordinators, this system was developed with the following characteristics:

  • You can run a Men, Women or Mix ladder, one at a time or all at once or any combination – currently no partner doubles ladders (in developed and being tested)

  • LMS is focus on a 6-8 week ladder length with play weekly. There are various options with a lot of flexibility

  • A Ladder is focused on a sequential ranking from 1 to the last player broken up into groups of 5 with round robin play schedule automatically

  • Once the scores are entered into the system, then all appropriate reports can be generated and the next week’s ladder will be generate based on the movement of players (total points for the group). Top 2 players move up a group, the last 2 players move down a group and the middle player plays in the same group at position 3.

Simple flow:

The PB Ladder coordinator will plan for each group the Date, Time and Court assignments for play. Game play sheets (5 or 4 players) can be printed and can be emailed or intergraded in a web-site giving each player access to who, when, where and time to play. Before play time a printed copy of the group game play schedule should be at the courts. Once a game is completed, the players will record the score. When all games are finished the sheet will be submitted to the PB coordinator at the courts. The PB coordinator or volunteer will key the scores into the LMS system. Once all the groups’ data is entered into the system, group reports are automatically generated and the new groups will be generated for the next week. The logic for the new ladder next week is simple and calculated by the system.

The LMS system keeps track of players total points, average points per game played and a total win/loss total record. This gives the players an opportunity to do some analysis and provide prizes for top players.

The LMS was developed and implemented for a PB Club by a seasoned system database developer who’s retired and usually plays at the PickleBall club three times a week.

Some Operational Highlights:

  • The PB Club should at least 20-100+ members that want to play in a Ladder league
